The big food IPOs of Delivery Hero (cheer) and Blue Apron (sorrow) are dominating the food news. Within the VC context it is noticeable that still grocery delivery (food and meal kits) show more deals and funding than meal delivery (ready dishes) – see CB Insights – so the trust in making revenue did not die so far.

Regarding current food deals it strikes that investors believe in fresh and regional products and innovation (e.g. investments in City Farming by Infarm, or in the online farm shop Farmy).

As far as the trends are concerned: health & convenience, regionality, plant-based food, quality & transparency, and a turn from big food products to startup innovations is dominating the F & B sector – a development that also future food expert Hanni Rützler noticed in her Food Report 2018.
